Topic tags/keywords: question nailer framing

Although I have seen a couple of posts similar, I am going to ask this anyway.

I do handyman work and do not need a framing nailer all that often…but also believe in purchasing the best tool for what I can afford…even if it means saving up for it.

Recently I have seen that Bostisch recently came out with a new model LPF33PT Low Profile Paper Tape Framing Nailer. I liked the reviews because it was light and can get in between studs. It is corded.

Then today I noticed that Paslode has come out with a Li-ion Cordless Framing Nailer…the CF325Li. This gun is $81.00 more than the Bostisch…but…look ma’ no compressor.

Can any of you veteran’s out there give me some direction? I am not in a hurry to make a purchase…just doing my due diligence before I do.

Thanks!!!

I have owned the Paslode battery powered gas driven framing nailer for about 10 years now, I have two. I purchased the second one in 2008 or 2009. It is and was much more reliable than the first one that I bought. I am not sure what they fixed but my first one was a true P.O.S. One of the difficulties I have with the Paslode is when it is cold and wet the gun doesn’t want to fire regularly. My old gun never worked (faster than a hammer – often it was slower) in the rain, the new gun is much better, but temperature and humidity still affect its performance—at least here in the rainy north west.

In my history of nail gun ownership I have not owned a Bostitch nailer that I would ever recommend, I do however use their 16’ version of the fat max tape.

The best framing nailer that I have ever owned has been the Hitachi NR83A2. I have dropped it a thousand times, it has never broken. I can’t say that about my DeWalt or Bostitch nailers. I have had good experience with Porter Cable nailers, but have never owned a PC framing gun (their roofing nailers are far superior to any other brand, in my experience).

When framing new construction I bring my Hitachi. If I just have to sink a few nails one handed, then I use the Paslode – the Paslode is for convenience, like when I don’t want to pack up a compressor. The Hitachi works every time, all the time and doesn’t require special gas tubes, or run out of batteries after two hours of use.

I think that the freedom the cordless nailer provide is excellent. Just make sure you keep it charged.

I do agree that the Porter Cable is surely not quiet and it can be very annoying when trying to get some work done in the evenings. The California air tools compressors are the quietest units around at the moment. Most of these run at around 60db – you can actually have a normal conversation wihile the air compressor is running. Here is a page http://www.thediyhubby.com/air-compressor-reviews/ that has a comparison chart that lists the db rating of air compressors, making it easy to see the noisy and the quiet ones.
