Hi Everyone,

I”ve been on Lumberjocks for a while but I am new to this site. I am hoping to go pro this year. I am an electrical engineer by day and woodworker by night and weekends :)... I love remodeling, especially in the Greene & Greene style. I’ve been doing period furniture for some time (and still do) but I’ve wanted to branch out into remodeling before I retire (in about 4 years) to do something I really love. My night and weekend work is starting to pick up (I won’t quit my day job) so I’m hopeful…

Anyway, I hope to learn a lot from you guys…

Good to see some of my Lumberjock buddies on here.
I too indulge in reno’s for clients and especially around my home. Like building a large Library for my writer/author wife, a new bathroom with twin showers, large covered in decks, workshop extensions, walk-in robes, large wooden truck for my son…etc..etc….and boat building keeps me real busy.
But it’s all fun to do.

I’m finishing up an oak flooring job (300 sqr ft) and so far it has turned out great and has been a wonderful learning experience. I’ve done floors before but this was my first pro job. Removed the trim, removed the carpet, laid new subfloor, laid felt, then laid the floor. I’m keeping close track of my hours, to get an idea of how I am doing. I’m working alone, with the owner helping for a few hours. So far it has taken me a little more than 23 hours, with about another 2-3 hrs tonight to clean up some detail. I know I need to work faster but working by myself, I wonder how I am doing.

The customer has asked me to remodel a wall on the their enclosed patio so I am excited about that. I’ll do most of that in my shop and then deliver it. This job will have a tighter quote and I’ll be supplying all of the materials. Another contractor was there while I was working and asked me if I would be interested in doing custom built-ins & furniture for him when they come up. He said he gets asked that a lot but can’t do it because he doesn’t have a woodworking shop. Maybe my dream will come true…

Hi, according to your question, a local locksmith company is well recommended rather than a giant security network. I’m a manager of a local locksmith company in Germantown, MD- Locksmith Germantown and many of our clients were customers of a big network. They thought that because of the name they will get a reliable service and an address where they can consult, but than they noticed that not only that they pay much more about this service but they also don’t get the level of service they expected from such a company. Maybe I’m bribed, but only because of my experience – my offer is take a local service.
