A friend ask if I could make a gate like her neighbor has so I gave it a shot. Not to challenging of a project but was fun to try.

That is very cool, so are we looking at the neighbors or your friends gate here? lol

Do you buy components and weld them together, or is this made from scratch?

Very nice iron work. Just glad I don’t live anywhere that I need one of these.

PaBull,
This is the one I built, if I had taken pics of the neighbors it would have been a plus….lol, as I was going from memory.
I bought raw material and constructed it, with the exception of the ornimental parts. Thanks Mr.Trim!
The house had been broken into in the past, now they feel more secure about the entry.
Thanks for the comments.

An other project my wife has been asking me about. I’ll tell you, marriage = job security!

Where does one learn to weld like this? I am contemplating a class, but I don’t know where.

Try your local college they usually offer classes.
I bought a wire feed welder from lowes and practiced and read books. Learned things from the internet and got tips from friends that are welders.
I must have put somewhere in the area of about 140 pounds of wire through the first welder.
You will look like a pro in no time with a wire feed welder.
