Built for the Sable family, this maple desk and bookcase Library was allot of fun to build.

We replaced the old 6 panel pocket doors with these french glass doors.

I never had a chance to get photos with it completely finished including the hardware and decorated.
The lower dovetailed file cabinet drawers are made of solid maple and have alum. slide bars for hanging folders.

Always something….
The client wanted to have inset drawers and the tops of the desk all the same elevation, but then she discovered the chair arms wouldn’t go ALL the way in. (6 more inches).
So… we added 1 1/2 ” to the desk legs and hid it behind the wrapped base and shortened the top section.
It took an extra 3 hours to adjust but she made us lunch and was very nice to work with.
Funny thing is, I think it looks better too.
We had to decide between dividing the left cabinet’s existing 42” shelf space evenly or match the width on the other side of the pocket doors. We offered both options to the client and I think they made a good choice.

A shout out to my good friend and lead carpenter, Jose Gomez. He helped me build and install this cabinet.
He’s by far one of the best carpenters I have ever met.

We also remodeled their master bathroom – not my layout choice but they like it.

Note to contractors.
When trying out a new tile man, make sure he doesn’t try to sledge hammer the old 2nd floor tile above the drywalled living room ceiling.
Cost = 900.00 to remove drywall ceiling off living room floor and furniture, install new drywall, tape and paint.

The library portion is inspiring! Thanks!
(Off to further plot the details of my office built-ins…)

That family library is really great! You did an amazing job! The desk has that old, antique look, very Sherlock Holmes like. I especially liked the flooring in the library, what kind is it?

wow, the library and bathroom are amazing! I keep kicking around the idea of converting a room in the house into a “library”, thanks for the inspiration.
