Classic Pooh
My wife has a strong sentimental/emotional attachment to Kenny Loggin’s House at Pooh Corner , so naturally when planning the theme for our first child’s room, Winnie-the-Pooh was the clear choice. And while she’s also a big Disney fan (and stock holder), she’s always preferred the look of “Classic Pooh”.
Pooh Sticks
After reviewing the classic Pooh illustrations, we decided to recreate a portion of Pooh’s tree. Since her sister Kathy is an accomplished artist with a great deal of talent for mural work, we “hired” her to paint a “Pooh Sticks” mural on one wall.
Rubber Trees
I decided to border this mural with a couple tree sculptures. It was my sister-in-law Kathy’s idea to extend one of the branches over the window to form a convenient curtain rod. The trees were made of a particle board skeleton, that was then covered with chicken wire, and fabric, and finally topped with a blue ruberized roofing compound. This is a technique I borrowed from my days doing theatrical set work.
Happy Birthday!
Our daughter, Annalise, was born in January 2006…and seems to like her room!
