Well, it finally happened. Our main bathroom finally started to literally fall apart last Monday. I had tile fall on my foot – about six tiles and a soap dish. This proved that the shower wasn’t just ugly – that we had an even more serious problem than we realized. The remodel has been in the plans for the past five years (since we bought the house) and next year was the year we were going to get it started. That time table has since been moved up.
I peeled the somewhat moist patch of remaining drywall out and pulled a few other spots out to see if I could check the studs and the following pictures show what I found. My dad (bless his soul) is coming tomorrow morning to help me begin to rip everything down to the studs and see what we have going on. Hopefully structural damage is to a minimum but I really wouldn’t be surprised if we find rot at the base of some studs. Wish me luck!

Hard to believe it’s already been 117 days… The bathroom is mostly done, and I have an anthology of pictures… still working on finishing up tiling the shower, and have some conundrums to pass by you guys and the tile forum I go to.. I’m having a bit of trouble deciding how to deal with my weird threshold, and how to border my shower – tho I might have that one figured out :D
