We started this in March of 07. Then in March of 08 we had a major flood and another one that September. The river got in the lower cabin both times, about 2 feet deep. What a mess that was! We were lucky this year, but it got pretty high several times. The old cabin has been flooded probably 10 or 12 times in 50+ years and it’s still standing. We have redone the closed in porch about 5 years ago, but we need to gut the whole cabin downstaris. New windows and everything, inside and out.

Oh yeah, they’re 4 feet in the ground and concrete. Our old cabin has never went anywhere yet in 50 years and there wasn’t any concrete in those. We’re on a road with 25 cabins. In 82 the river was flooding and it was all head water and knocked the neighbors cabin off the stilts. A tree kept it from hitting our cabin. That year it did take out 4 cabins, but not ours. Lucky I guess.
