This qualifies as a home update/refurb doesn’t it? It’s neat anyway so I’ll post it.

I don’t know about you but here in Maine, this winter (2013), It’s been a bear of a winter for cold weather. Looks like we will break records. It’s been having a hard time getting above zero in the daytime and well below zero at night. Some parts of the country are even worse.

So, I thought I needed something over the windows, particularly over the 12 ft sliding glass door I have overlooking the lake. Enter my sister with her sewing machine. I purchased a bunch of bed quilts from a local salvage store for a fraction what you’d pay for them elsewhere. We worked all day and managed to cut and sew enough iterations of them to fit the big door, two larger windows and some smaller ones. They’re held up by long strips of sewn on (stapled to the tops of the window molding) velcro I found on Amazon.

As we worked we noticed a difference right away. Going down to zero again tonight. The quilts will be very welcome indeed.

Very well done and they sure look a lot nicer than the plastic I have covering some of my 50’s vintage windows !
