Part 1: Additions to the Household
In just a few weeks, we’ll have a new baby girl to bring into our shrinking home. In just a few weeks, I hope to have added a recreation / office room to our house to compensate. I’m using my two-car garage and cutting it half such that a car would not fit within its depth. The outer half will be my workshop while the inner half will be a playroom. My task is not, on the surface, too difficult save for the fact that I’ve never done this kind of work before and I’m ...
Part 2: Subfloor Paneling
I’ve recently finished one half of the 21’ subfloor I’m building. I’m out of joists, so I’ll need to buy more before continuing. Head over to the Gradin.com blog to see the news.
Part 4: Walling Off

Since our little girl was born, I’ve framed the wall (with the exception of a four foot section where the door will go), run my electrical, and insulated most of the new wall. The framing went without headache. I built a simple jig that allowed me to compress-fit a board onto the top sill while I screwed in the studs. Yes, I used screws exclusively for this project per the recommendation of retired, professional framer...
Part 5: BIG Updates
Boy do I have updates to share! I’ve finally finished this project, merely 452+ days after it began. The garage conversion has been completed! I now have a spacious 10’x20’ room attached directly to my dining room. It is better insulated than any other part of the house and we’re already enjoying the comfort during these nights in the 20’s (of degrees F). Also, my daughter is walking well enough these days. My earlier posts spoke of her birth – well now ...
