My genealogy searches say that my father’s side is French but I can’t find anything that goes back far enough to know what French and where/etc.

Hi again Debbie,
One of my uncles traced our name back to 14 th century Spain where the name was changed to it’s current spelling. I do not know what method he used so I am of no help here.
