The evolving reason for home improvements...

I read a study the other day that indicated that the overwhelming majority (in the order of 70%) of home improvements completed last quarter were for completed by customers that were searching for “increased enjoyment” from their home. This is a shift…prior to the cratering of the US economy, and the massive hit many of us have taken in our home value, it was far more common for home owners to be focused on ROI when completing home improvement projects. House flipping, and the feeling that the home was an investment that simply would never decline in value lead to a different type of home improvement. Today, it is interesting to watch as home owners, a bit unshackled by the idea of return on investment are really focusing on the projects that will maximize enjoyment.

We provide hardwood flooring in Atlanta and carpet in Atlanta as well as other types of flooring and have definitely seen home owners begin to choose more stylized, more personalized product choices. Patterned carpet, inlays, borders etc. that reflect the homeowner’s personal taste are becoming more common.

If there is one positive byproduct of the bad economy it may just be that home owners are becoming more likely to really make their home a place that they can enjoy.
