« Part 2: Drillin', Cuttin' & Dust Everywhere Part 3 of Rewiring series no next part

Got the final inspection today! Woot!

Not a whole lot to add to the previous update, but got the final inspection on the electrical today. Finally.

And having sufficient sockets is amazing. The power strip quotient in the house has gone way way down. New LED lights in various places, with dimmers that work for them. It’s all pretty darned amazing.

  1. Really, once we got the procedure down, running new sockets was pretty easy. A long extension on a hex drive augur bit made drilling up through the sills or, if I angled the drill just right, down from the top, easy.
  2. More sockets better. 4 gangs where you think you need more.
  3. The status LEDs on the wired smoke detectors are really bright. I cut little circles of electrical tape to go over them, which helps.
  4. Crawl space work still sucks.

I hate the crawl space part, especially the dirt ones that are open to the outside. One house I worked on had a family of skunks living under there. They were very curious about what I was doing – Give them eggs, and don’t corner them, they have seriously sharp teeth and will bite.

Luckily ours is well screened, and my several years ago project was laying down plastic. So it’s just somewhat dusty and cramped, no critters.

The new LED lights have to be measured and prepared adequately, or it would be really hard to proceed. I completely agree the more (sockets) the better! Have a similar problem so I could really could recommend more.
