Acting as Owner-GC for new house build

Hi all,
Just curious about those who have acted as owner-general contractor for a new house build. I know this may not be the best place to post, but thought I would give it a try. I worked general construction for 4 years and have very close friends that are custom home builders/GCs that are willing to guide me. I am a jack of all trades and can tackle pretty much anything other than vehicle mechanics. The build will be about 5 mins from where I work and I can be a little flexible if I have to visit the site every day. A good friend of mine is the county building inspector and has agreed to stop In for periodic inspections as I live in an area that does not have residential inspections required. Getting draws from the bank will not be an issue either. Any thoughts? I am pretty organized and have contacts for all sub contractors. If I can save 20% off house building costa, I can build a large garage workshop at the same time. Thanks for any directions.

Hey you should know there are a lot of challenges being a owner and contractor both, I recently wrote an essay about it at https://www.essayuniverse.net/ so quite well researched.
