The Master #4: Home Stretch - I hope.

« Part 3: Peace Part 4 of The Master series no next part

The floor is down. It took me a LOT longer to lay that floor than any other wood floor I have ever laid. There is a very simple reason for that. I didn’t trust myself. I went fast on my living room floor and I have already had to make a few repairs. I am no expert. This time, I laid some down, cleaned up, weighed it down and let it sit until the next day. I can’t find a single spot on the whole floor that I’m disappointed in. If you read the blog entry called insanity you know that I was ready to just dump the entire container of glue on the concrete and throw the flooring on top of it.

I’m grateful that I took the pause.

Next up – trim work. I need to make some door trim and pick up some more baseboard. One of you all kindly suggested that I spray paint the trim instead of brushing the paint on. I borrowed a sprayer from my neighbor and I’ll try it out.

The thing that makes me happy is that I had enough pieces of baseboards to cope in advance. Even though that took a slow poke like me some extra time, it’s done and it won’t delay me. The hardest part will be for me to negotiate to imperfect corners of the wall. Well – J – gave me some good lessons there and I think it will turn out well.

I have the utmost respect for you professionals and I have nothing but gratitude for your help. When I’m done with this room, I’m hoping everything will look like one of you did it.

Heh heh. True Nick.

Wait a moment there. Baseboards! You were just teasing weren’t you?

By the way, I took Victoria to see RIPD. She LOVED it. Good enough for me.

Congrats on the progress Mark. Sometimes it is just best to take your time even when the work is tedious and making you crazy.

Howdy J! Good to see you. I think the trim installation went pretty solid. By the way, I went with your previous suggestion of using shoe trim instead of quarter round. It really looks better – now that I’m not so stubborn. I also mitered the ends instead of doing a blind return. I think it’s a crisper look. All I have to do is listen to you guys a little more and I end up a lot happier. ;)

All I have left to do is caulk and touch up the paint. Yee Haa. It is indeed the home stretch. That’s good because I’m wore out!!!! Today was a hum dinger. Thank the Lord the temperature was in the 90’s (instead of the 100’s).

Thank you very much J. It’s very king and generous if you to say that.

I’m finished with the room and I was going to post it. I think I ought to finish moving everything in so it has a chance of looking like something. “Something” may be the operative word. I don’t think anything we have will go with the blue walls. On the other hand, Martha loves the tranquility of her Caribbean colors. I’ll fix make Martha her bedding covers, drapes and a sitting area to coordinate with her ocean hideaway. (As long as I don’t have to make it look like a beach. ;)

Mark, somehow I missed this when you posted it. Looks like really great work! Your whole house must be looking really fine now. Keep it up.

Hey Robb, thank you much sir! I’ll post the project when we finish decorating. In the meantime, my wife adds a little touch here and a little one there.
