Hello,
I just discovered this site, via lumberjocks. I have been working on our massive dining room project for over a year now! Here’s the history:
My wife and I inherited an antique dining room set from her grandparents, but we did not yet have a dining room. When we bought the house, we had plans for turning the front living room into a dining room, as we also had another room serving as a family room elsewhere in the house. So, time to get cranking on the dining room proje...

A concrete spall repair done properly will extend the life of your concrete if fixed early enough.
Repairing spalls can be handled in a few ways. Sometimes it is best to break out an entire section and re-pour it with new concrete rather than patching. With this method, be sure to wear goggles to protect your eyes, ear protection, gloves and a dust mask as cutting or breaking up concrete creates a large cloud of dust. Patching works best for lesser damage in otherwise solid concrete. Use e...

Besides making a home or business appear neglected, cracks in concrete often cause concrete to eventually buckle and heave, creating a potential for car damage and making it dangerous for passersby to walk on. Concrete Repair and Restoration is essential for value and safety. With concrete fillers and other methods, many tools, proportioning and primers are needed as well as days to dry. Polyurethane repairs are completed and ready for use the same day. With polyurethane repair materials like...

Boy do I have updates to share! I’ve finally finished this project, merely 452+ days after it began. The garage conversion has been completed! I now have a spacious 10’x20’ room attached directly to my dining room. It is better insulated than any other part of the house and we’re already enjoying the comfort during these nights in the 20’s (of degrees F).
Also, my daughter is walking well enough these days. My earlier posts spoke of her birth – well now ...

Hairline Cracks can be filled simply using Concrete Welder, available in a cartridge format. Make sure the crack is clean and free of moisture. Open cartridge and squeeze Concrete Welder directly into the crack. Use a scraper or straight-edge to smooth the material out. Wipe up any excess material and allow to dry for 30 minutes. Now the crack is filled and ready for use.

Welcome to my next renovation. This time around my goal is to renovate my 2nd floor bathroom in a similar style to my basement bathroom. Thrown into the mix I’m also renovating the hallway on that floor.
The problem: Out of date and cheaply done bathroom with a leak somewhere around the tub drain (seems to be mostly from the overflow) The floor is unlevel and ugly. Reason enough to do the renovation. The door to the bathroom was nicely done with a 6’ high opening, hung with a h...

I actually told the story about my free air compressor on Lumberjocks but since it has led to a kitchen/laundry room remodel I decided to follow up here.
The short version is that I got a free air compressor years ago and it recently quit working. I went to Sear’s Outlet to see if they had any and ended up buying the little woman a new French door refrigerator that we were planning to buy after the first of the year.
The new fridge wouldn’t fit where the old fridge was becau...

Here are a couple of pics of the baseboards installed, nail holes and edges puttied, sanded and primered:
I also mudded\floated out the remaining sections of the wall where the top coat of plaster had been removed. Just trying to level it all out before I primer the walls and ceiling this weekend. Then I hope to get the walls and ceiling retexturized. Happy Halloween!
